Emily's Marathon Challenge

EMILY CADMOREGorleston girl Emily Cadmore is running the London Marathon on April 21st.  Emily is a former head-girl of Lynn Grove High School and she now lives in Tooting in south east London and works as a mortgage adviser in the City

She’s running for the Norfolk based charity the Vidiyal Trust which is led by the Reverend Pat Atkinson of Brundall.  The charity runs a number of projects in India to care for the very poorest of people and has built children’s homes and schools, runs a tuition and care centre in a large slum, provides outreach clinics to cancer patients and has set up a care home and day centre for elderly ladies who live on the streets and rubbish tips of Madurai.  Currently, the charity is buying land on which to build huts to house elderly people from the slums.   Having a permanent address will allow them to receive a pension and be part of a self sufficient community providing basic food, shelter and care.  Each hut costs £850 to build and should last for 40-50 years, and Emily is hoping her marathon efforts will raise enough to fund two or more entire huts

Whilst a student twenty years ago, Emily visited some of the Trust’s projects in India and she currently sponsors one of the needy elderly ladies.  The ladies know she is running for them and they’re following her progress with interest and enthusiasm

In 2011 Emily managed a time of 4 hours and 58 seconds and she is aiming to beat the 4 hour barrier this time.  With a recent half-marathon time of 1 hour 43 minutes, training is going well
