Derek Mill
Worship Leader, All Saints Church, Belton

Sunday 25th September

Heavenly Father, thank You for the Gospel of Christ, the whole Gospel, from start to finish

Thank You for Your prophetic Word, telling us the Messiah would come

Thank You for the conception of Jesus by the power of the Holy Spirit, Mary conceived and was pregnant

Thank You for the birth of Jesus, a birth like no other, the Son of God, but also a birth like every human, the Son of Man

Thank You for Jesus' extraordinary life, a life like no other, full of wonder, mystery, miracles

Thank You for Jesus' ordinary life, a life like ours, breathing, eating, drinking, working, walking, talking, tiring

Thank You for His arrest, even though He had done no wrong; the judgement on Him was a judgement on ourselves; we are the guilty ones

Thank You for His crucifixion, His death on the cross, paying the price for all our sin and shame

Thank You for the forgiveness spoken from the cross as He died

Thank You for the grave, buried like us, but not like us! The grave could not hold Him!

Thank You for the resurrection, Jesus raised from the dead. Living proof that it is not death to die! Living proof that all Jesus said, all that scripture said about Him, is the Truth, the whole Truth and nothing but the Truth

Thank for His instructions to go and tell everyone the Truth, the Gospel

Thank You for His ascension to Heaven where He now reigns with You

Thank You for the Holy Spirit, now in the world, the gift given to everyone who believes and trusts in Jesus

Thank You for the Gospel of Christ
Amen

Saturday 24th September

Heavenly Father, the 'strapline' for the church I attend is "Love God, love people, love life". It appears on our notice sheets, our posters, our letter heading and on various projections in services

When asked what is the greatest commandment, Lord Jesus, You answered, "Love the Lord Your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength". And You continued, "The second is this: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself’. There is no commandment greater than these". Love God and love people. Two out of three ain't bad

Another saying we often use is, "The Church is not the building it's the people". I believe this wholeheartedly, but the Church building was there before me and will be there long after I have gone, and it does serve as a constant reminder that there have been people of Christian faith in the village for over 600 years, and probably many years more

The Communion Cup we use is dated 1568 and inscribed, "for the town of Belton", further evidence for the longevity of the faith alive in the village and in the church. Thank You for the building, thank You for the Communion Cup, visible reminders of the Truth of the Gospel, that have stood the test of time

But thank You even more so for the people of faith who have passed on Your love throughout the generations, inspired and strengthened by Your Spirit. I know You today because of them. May many others come to know You today because we love You, God, love people and love life
Amen

Friday 23rd September

Heavenly Father, thank You for the body You have given us. It is an amazing thing You have created! The way it functions is quite incredible, whether it be air breathed in bringing oxygen through our lungs to our blood and to our brain, or food transformed into energy so we can move and do things

And what about thoughts, speech, creativity, the ability to see, colours, shapes, memory!! We are truly a wonderful creation, as King David rightly says, "When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon, and the stars, which You have set in place, what is mankind that You are mindful of them, human beings that You care for them? You have made them a little lower than the angels and crowned them with glory and honour"

We are just a little lower than the angels! You are mindful of us and have crowned us with glory and honour! We are indeed an amazing creation, but we are broken. Sadly, so sadly we are broken. Our bodies may function well, or not, but our spirit had gone, in fact we were more than broken, we were dead. You tell us, "As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins..."

Unable to do anything for ourselves, You decided to do something for us! "But because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions - it is by grace you have been saved... It was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed... but with the precious blood of Christ"

Thank You for Jesus' blood
Amen

Thursday 22nd September

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, thank You, yet again, for being here as I come to You first thing in the morning. Knowing You are here, waiting for me, shows me how eager You are to meet with me, that You have the day prepared, ready for us to go on an adventure together

It is hard to imagine a day with You that would be mundane or uneventful. I don't know exactly what the day holds, but I do know that You are ready for anything

You know where the pain is that needs healing

You know where the broken heart is that needs mending

You know where the grief is that needs soothing

You know where the lost person is cowering and afraid in the dark, where You can shine Your Light and open a doorway to freedom

And You know me too, and that I am also under Your protection

You are my bodyguard, my shield, my shelter. As I walk with You, I know I am able to do more than I realise, because Your Spirit within me is at work in the world

You are the God who saves. You are the Spirit that raised Christ from the dead! You are the One who surrounds me with Your love

It is not my words the world needs, it is Your Word. It is not my strength that the world needs it is Your power

It is not my dreams the world needs it is Your hope

It is not my advice the world needs it is Your wisdom

It is not me the world needs, it is You, Jesus. Lord, let Your Spirit flow today, flood the earth so people are walking on holy ground. Let Your Spirit hover over us, envelop us with Your love
Amen

Wednesday 21st September

Heavenly Father, thank You that we are made with a purpose in mind. You have a plan for us. In this vast universe You have a plan for me! For each of us!

"For I know the plans I have for you" declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart"

But You have also created us with free will, the ability to choose what to say, what to do, the ability to think for ourselves. So, how do these two things marry? Your plans and my free will? I wonder, just as I pray, if the answer lies in that word, 'marry'?

When two people choose to get married there is a choice made, to love one another, to live together, to share their lives together, to plan a future together, to make sacrifices to one another, thinking of the other in all they do. When this happens a beautiful thing occurs, a loving relationship

Perhaps this is Your plan, a beautiful relationship where we sacrifice ourselves to You and You sacrifice Yourself for us. There can be no doubt about Your love and sacrifice for us, for me. You gave Your life for me on the cross. In order to enable our relationship to grow, to enable us to be together eternally, You took all my sin and shame and paid for it on the cross. That was Your sacrifice

What is my sacrifice? To honour You. To worship You. To seek You with all my heart. To love You with all my heart and soul and mind and strength. Proposal accepted
Amen

I will worship with all of my heart -You Are Worthy of My Praise

I Love You Lord and I lift my voice

I Love You Lord with all of my heart

Tuesday 20th September

Heavenly Father, thank You for every sermon preached which glorifies Your Holy Name and reminds us of the Truth about who You are, who Jesus is and the work of Your Holy Spirit in the world today

There can be few sermons which touch so many hearts at one time all over the world but the one preached at the Queen's funeral by the Archbishop of Canterbury must have done so, touched so many hearts in so many nations. Thank You that in a world full of compromise the Archbishop did not compromise at all but kept Jesus at the heart of what he said. "Jesus - who in our reading does not tell His disciples how to follow, but who to follow - said: 'I AM the Way, the Truth and the Life'

Her Late Majesty's example was not set through her position or her ambition, but through whom she followed". The Archbishop later said, "In 1953 the Queen began her Coronation with silent prayer, just there at the High Altar. Her allegiance to God was given before any person gave allegiance to her. Her service to so many people in this nation, the Commonwealth, and the world, had its foundation in her following Christ - God Himself - who said that He 'came not to be served but to serve and to give His life as a ransom for many'"

A 'sermon' preached over two thousand years ago has touched the hearts and minds of millions of people through every generation since; the Word spoken by Jesus in what we now call, 'The Sermon on the Mount'. Thank You that Your Word has the power to change lives
Amen

Monday 19th September

Heavenly Father, a question is occasionally asked of people, "Where were you when..." followed by a name or event which has passed into history, "John Lennon... 9/11... Princess Diana...?". Today will be such a day in the future, "Where were you when Her Majesty, the late Queen Elizabeth II...?"

Few events in my lifetime have had such a massive impact as the passing of our dearly loved Queen. The outpouring of respect, affection, devotion, love shown by people over the period of time since her passing into glory has been truly wonderful and it has been marvellous to see. Many people have spent hours, literally hours, waiting to simply walk by the coffin draped in the Royal Standard to pay their respects

Thank You that we have been able to witness this, as we will be able to witness the funeral ceremony via the various technologies available. When Your Son, our Lord Jesus was crucified there were, "No scenes of stately majesty for the King of kings. No nights aglow with candle flame for the King of love. No flags of empire hung in shame for Calvary. No flowers perfumed the lonely way that led Him to a borrowed tomb for Easter Day"

Thank You that we can remember Jesus and where He was, for us, just over two thousand years ago: nailed to a cross; a crown of thorns; a spear in His side; dead; buried. But we also know where He was on the third day after His crucifixion! Alive, outside of the tomb. No technology, just Word of mouth! Gospel. Jesus Christ, Son of God, Saviour
Amen
