The Royal Wedding

Recently our nation was thrilled by the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. What a grandiose ceremony it was and what a pleasure to watch such a happy couple

It is an honour and a privilege to be invited to the royal wedding.

Helen Reeve from Norfolk, who was one of the 1600 members of the public who received a surprise invitation, described it as ‘being parachuted to another world’1

dove leftI cannot help but think of a parable told by Jesus about another royal wedding. The king sent out an invitation to the wedding banquet for His son. However, those invited did not regard the invitation very highly. They preferred to attend to their business instead and even went as far as killing the servants who gave them the invitation. Then the king ordered his servants to go to the street corners and invite anyone they could find. Soon the royal hall was filed with guests. (Matthew 22:1-10)

This parable illustrates a lesson that Jesus wanted us to learn about another royal wedding - we are all invited to attend the wedding feast of Jesus and His bride – the church. Jesus says in Revelation 3: 20:

“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me” (NIV)

Dove rightJesus is soon coming back to earth to receive His bride – those who by faith accepted His sacrifice on the cross and its power to wash away our sins. He loves us more than we can comprehend – to the point of giving His life so we can live with Him one day. He took our punishment, the punishment He did not deserve, to give us the reward we didn’t earn (eternal life).  He wants us to have a close and fulfilling relationship with him here on earth and in the world to come

What place does this royal invitation have on our list of priorities?

Here is the good news: the only thing we need to do is to accept Jesus as our Lord and Saviour and allow Him to lead us
